Emergency Planning & Community Right-to-Know Act

*Law that is designed to help local communities protect public health, safety, and the environment from chemical hazards.

- Each state must make a State Emergency Response Commission. These are required to divide their states into Emergency Planning Districts and must name an   Emergency Planning Committee for each district.

This law benefits people by letting them know what to do in certain scenarios. The only real cost is time and preparation.

Consumer

Fair Debt Collection Practices Act

*purpose is to eliminate abusive practices in the collection of consumer debts, to promote fair debt collection, and to provide consumers with an avenue for disputing and obtaining validation of debt information in order to ensure the information’s accuracy. (Wikipedia)

- This acts creates boundaries that debt collectors may make business, define rights of consumers involved with said debt collectors, and write penalties and remedies for people who don’t follow.

Employee

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

*provides an entitlement of up to 12 weeks of job-protected  during any 12-month period to eligible.

- eligibility:

1) birth and care of the eligible employee’s child, or placement for adoption or foster care of a child with the employee

2) care of an immediate family member (spouse child or parents) who has a serious health condition

3) care of the employee’s own serious health condition
